Is The Owl Really the Symbol of Wisdom?

''A wise old owl sat on an oak; The more he saw the less he spoke; The less he spoke the more he heard; Why aren’t we like that wise old bird?''

Owl is one of most used bird symbol all around our daily life we see so many owls as symbols looking on us what ever we go. Most common symbolism of owl in Western world is Wisdom and it represents ancient Greek goddess Athena. 

Owl has connection to Magic and the Occult as the animal soul-spirit linked to a witch or wizard.

Owl for secret society members means keeper of secrets, it is symbol of mystery, mysticisms, and connections of underworld. Owl serves as a symbol of the secret society called the Bohemian Grove.

Since owl hides in darkness and avoids the light, it also came to symbolize Satan, the Prince of Darkness.

Hollywood celebrities very often wear T-shirt with image of owl or have a gold necklace with owl shaped pendent. This symbol as clear connection showing their support for a secret society or representing the historic or ancient meaning behind owl symbolism.

The Native Americans see owls as being the keeper of sacred knowledge, they value the bird's ability to see at night. It is this characteristic of the creature that Native Americans call upon during ceremonies when a vision of secret knowledge is needed.

West Africans and Aboriginal Australians, the owl is viewed as a sort of messenger of secrets that has ties to sorcerer.

For ancient Egyptians and Celtics owl is a guardian of the underworlds, and a protection of the dead.

In the Netherlands, the owl symbolizes stubbornness, unwillingness to change, stuck in life's views. But Hindu culture owl's stare means dopey and owl symbolize stupid person, idiot or fool.
